The silent rhetoric, or rhetoric tacens of art, may include objects commonly
encountered in a church. For example, the painting "Agony in the Garden", by
Basaiti, Venice, of 1515. Once again a church "lamp" is to be found! Certainly
a "lamp" would not be part of a major work of art, except as a rhetorical
device to make a biblical scene seem part of the viewer's environment.
